Cloud as a Service (Cloud Computing) explained by Robin Bloor

Cloud as a ServiceCloud as a Service and Cloud Computing are still terms that are hard to explain. That is why I have posted below view of Robin Bloor, Technology Analyst and Founder of Bloor Research.

I’m sure that it will shed a clearer light on what Cloud Computing is and how it support “Cloud as a Service“.

Cloud Computing” is currently a marketing term. And that’s why I’m writing this; to divorce the use of Cloud Computing, the marketing term, from the use of Cloud Computing as an architectural idea. Marketing terms don’t have to conform to precise definition. They get used, then abused, then severely exploited and finally, as their bandwagon grinds to a halt, they get pitched onto the sorry stack of broken buzz words. That’s what happened to “eBusiness”, “Web Services”, “On Demand” and so on. Until the Continue reading

Cloud as a Service: How The Storage Hypervisor Adds Flexibility To Cloud Computing and Cloud as a Service

Cloud as a Service potentially brings more flexibility and value to existing IT infrastructures. Using the various Hypervisors you have today one could relatively easy implement a ‘Virtualized Server Infrastructure’ in a Cloud as a Service.

The benefits of Virtualization, such as  saving costs on hardware and labor, are already explained over and over again and easily be found on the Internet. That is how Cloudcomputing and  Cloud as a Service became big today. Continue reading

In my three previous attempts to explain what The Cloud is, I addressed it from a somewhat technological point of view. People without IT or technical background still don’t have a clue what The Cloud is when they have read the previous descriptions.

So this time my angle is to describe it from a more literal perspective.

Literally The Cloud is Continue reading

Cloud as a Service: How To Implement VDI Efficiently In The Cloud?

VDI is a concept that can be perfectly provisioned within “Cloud as a Service“. However, if you do want to make the end-users really happy with the Cloud as as Service, you probably end up buying more hardware than you thought up front. Usually faster and more expensive enterprise  level SAN storage does the trick.

But VDI and Cloud as a Service can be implemented differently and much more affordable as you will see in this video:

Please share with me whether you find this information useful? Perhaps you’d like to hear more about the feature-set? Please let me know. Then I will post some more blogs about its potential and it’s added value in The Cloud and Cloud as a Service.

In my previous attempt trying to explain in simple words what “The Cloud” is, I didn’t realize that ‘a variety of applications or services’ as part of my definition totally confused part of my audience.

Well here is my next shot regarding the definition of “The Cloud”:

“Cloud as a Service” appeared to be very hard to explain to people that have no Information Technology (IT) background.

That is why I decided to write 7 short blog posts that describe either ‘basic elements’ or benefits of The Cloud. When you put all blog posts together, you’ll get a general idea of what The Cloud is and how you could benefit from “Cloud as a Service”. Continue reading

Cloud as a Service: The Trial Cloud as “Cloud as a Service” Poll

It’s been a while since I wrote my last blog post. Actually that is because I have been working on a concept that I call “The Trial Cloud”.

I could write a lot about ‘The Cloud’ for ages and I certainly will, but people that don’t know what I’m talking about would better understand the concept by just using it. And I mean this for both novice users and expert users in The Cloud.

For novice users I’d like to make it easy to ‘play’ with the “Cloud as a Service” Continue reading

Cloud as a Service: Beating The I/O Blender Performance Killer – Secret Part 2

My previous post (Cloud as a Service: Beating The I/O Blender Performance Killer – Secret Part 1) caused my e-mail box to get flooded by some colleague IT Architects. Mainly, because one thought that I was pushing too much towards a Hyper-V virtualization solution.

As mentioned in other posts I do embrace VMware virtualization technology and I do know that XenServer has been able to outperform VMware. Especially when XenApp Virtual Machines were being utilized. So I am not favoring Hyper-V over these solutions all the time. I favor the right solution at the right time under the right circumstances. Continue reading
